A fantastic evening featuring Samia Rida, Patrick Turpin, Amy Howerska, Matthew Highton and our headliner is now confirmed as… the brilliant and hilarious Thom Tuck.
Thom Tuck is a comedian, just about. One-third of Radio 4 favourites, The Penny Dreadfuls, co-host of The Alternative Comedy Memorial Society and inflicter of his own series Thom Tuck Goes Straight-to-DVD. He has done a modicum of telly. People have said the following things about him, which at least proves that they all know who he is:
"fruity, befuddled and increasingly melancholy" The Guardian
"the next David Mitchell" The Mail on Sunday
"especially" The Telegraph
"a bit icky" The Independent
"not a rip-off" Chortle
Samia was forced into stand up by Gareth Edwards, producer of 'That Mitchell & Webb Look' and 'Spaced', whilst he was mentoring her as a tired actor and writer with a victim complex. She was famous in Scotland for a time when she played a regular lead in their soap, sorry continuing drama, 'River City'. She has also made a lot of funny films, some of which have been on the telly and were shot by Robbie Ryan. He shot 'I, Daniel Blake' - I know, impressive right. She has now developed a co-dependent love for stand-up which has taken her to venues such as Bearcat, The Comedy Pub and Comedy Cafe.
Patrick Turpin is a comedy writer/performer. He made his television debut in 2016 as a principle cast member in 4Music sketch show - Pop Sludge, having won acclaim earlier that year for his second solo live show - To Me, You Are Perfect. The show went on to receive an online release as part of new on-demand comedy platform Next Up.
Amy Howerska is a Comedian, Actress and Writer. She is also a Polish Irish Catholic Jewish, born and raised in Wales. Her TV credits include “The 50 Funniest Moments of 2013” (Channel 4), “The Greatest Christmas Films 2014” (Channel 5) and “The 40 Greatest Action Movies Of All Time” (Channel 5).
Matthew Highton is a director, writer and collaborator for the Chortle and Dave's Leicester Comedy Festival Awards nominated Weirdos Collective ("Making us laugh at very strange things" The Independent,"The closest thing we have to a modern day Comic Strip" Chortle), and co-founder of Chortle nominated, live, improvised comedy show, Comedians Cinema Club ("One of the best audience-participation shows" The Guardian), which has now grown to house residencies in London, Brighton and LA and has its own series of widely-regarded podcasts. With a keen eye for the abstract and an unfathomable commitment to his work, this affable Northerner is one of the most unique and stimulating director/writer/performers working today!
