Come and meet Florence Nightingale during half term
week. She’ll tell you how she became known as The Lady With The Lamp and you’ll
get to meet her pet owl too. Florence
became a nurse against her parents’ wishes but ended up being as famous as
Queen Victoria in her own lifetime and is still celebrated today.
On Tuesday 22 October Florence will also be reading
stories in our new Family Corner. Find
out all about the work Florence did to make hospitals better for patients; they
were really yukky places before she cleaned them up! Be one of the first to try out our new Family
Corner; dress up as a nurse and find out all about the different jobs nurses do
in hospitals today.
And on Sunday 20 October you can
meet Mary Seacole to discover more about her exciting life and how she
helped soldiers during the Crimean War. She lived in Jamaica as a Doctress and
then travelled all the way to the Crimea to use her skills helping the wounded
soldiers. In 2004 she was voted the greatest Black Briton.
