The Power and Beauty of Flowers is an exhibition by Northamptonshire professional artists and MA in Fine Art graduate from the University of Northampton Angela Stanbridge. The visual symbolism and perpetual cycles of life and death of flowers have inspired this exhibition of paintings. Angela deals with the beauty and power of flowers; how flowers have the capacity to lift the human spirit and produce a positive emotional response. Flowers can be powerful; they can produce positive emotional responses from not only those who receive them but also in those who give them. This exhibition demonstrate Angela’s obsession with the endless variety of patterns and shapes plus the intense colours of flowers. For Angela “Nature is ever changing; there is beauty to behold in every step. Each of us has the choice of simply seeing a flower or something much more. I love to take flowers and enhance their drama, which can allow you to view them in a completely different way”. Angela is a botanical artist who adds a modern & abstract twist to her work that draws you to look at flowers in a new light. She has had work selected for the Society of Botanical Artists Annual Exhibition in London, plus solo exhibitions at The Rugby Art Gallery & Museum, Nuneaton Art Gallery & Museum, two previous exhibitions at The Charles Rennie Mackintosh House & Galleries, 78 Derngate, Northampton.

ANGELA STANBRIDGE MA

The process of transforming paint and other materials into images continues to compel and challenge me. Over the years, that process has led me from realistic drawing & painting to through my degree course the pursuit of experimental abstract processes, eventually going back to realism. Painting fills me with a sense of well-being, and has proven to be a satisfying way for me to translate my visual ideas into a physical reality.

In recent years my focus has been on nature in particular plants & flowers bringing a modern edge to botanical painting. Nature represents for me, the design in life. I am intrigued by forms and the values held within. A flower shows everything from the seeds, stem, bud, and blossom, then returning to the earth to begin a new cycle of birth-life-death.

Nature is ever changing; there is beauty to behold in every step. Each of us has the choice of simply seeing a flower or something much more. I love to take a flower and enhance its drama, which can allow you to view it in a completely different way.

I have a particular fascination if not obsession with tulips especially by the endless variety of patterns and shapes as well as the intense colours of the tulips; for me there is no other flower that has the infinite diversity.
