March 23rd sees the return of Hitchin Chamber Orchestra to Hitchin Town Hall for their first concert of 2019, titled ‘From Russia With Love,’ under the baton of David Murphy. The theme of the concert is likely to recall the music of Tchaikovsky and the audience will be treated not only to the sparkling Waltz from his Serenade for Strings but also to the passionately melodious ‘Adagio cantabile’ from his celebrated work, Souvenir de Florence.

The centre-piece of the programme will be Glazunov’s ground-breaking Saxophone Concerto, written in 1933, performed on this occasion by local soloist, conductor and teacher, Philip Brunton. Philip, born and educated in Canada, is well known in Hertfordshire for his inspirational teaching with the Hertfordshire Music Service and as Musical Director of the Stevenage Symphony Orchestra.

The orchestra will also perform Rachmaninov’s ‘Vocalise,’ and the beautiful Serenade for Strings by his lesser known compatriot, Kalinnikov. A little gem by Scriabin alongside Shostakovich’s heart-warming Romance from the score for The Gadfly - and maybe an extra surprise item! - completes a typically diverse and adventurous HCO programme.

The orchestra looks forward to welcoming you for a great evening’s entertainment! Doors open at 7pm; discounted advance tickets are available from Eventbrite and the Hitchin Initiative, 1A Churchyard, Hitchin.
