Betty Haig, the great niece of Field Marshall Haig, seized the new found freedoms of post-war Britain and took advantage of the burgeoning motoring scene. During the 1930s she made a name for herself as a prominent continental rally driver and even took part in the Berlin Scatter Rally of 1936 in her Singer Le Mans, which was associated with the 1936 Olympics. Post WWII she continued to compete in sprints, rallies, hill climbs and circuit racing using mainly her own wide array of vehicles. In latter years she took part in historic rallies and helped found the Historic Sports Car Club.
Author Roger Farmer has written a detailed study of her life and will be joining us at Brooklands to talk about Betty and her cars.
