Meet Florence Nightingale
On Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 May come and meet Miss Nightingale and hear how she became known as the ‘Lady with the Lamp’. Find out how she became a nurse against her parents’ wishes, why she went to the Crimean War - and found a dead horse in the drinking well - and how she improved the conditions for the soldiers and nurses.
The History of Nursing; talk by author and district nurse Louise Wyatt
On Sunday 12 at 12pmLouise will be reading an extract from the chapter ‘Lesser Known Nurses and Their Legacies’ from her book, A History of Nursing, about Betsi Cadwaladr, a little-known Welsh nurse who was also in the Crimea with Nightingale.Louise is currently a practising District Nurse Sister in Bristol, combining both her professional career and her writing.
