An exhibition of a series of nine lino-cut prints expressing the perilous journeys made by migrants.
In ever increasing numbers they come!
They are risking their lives in flimsy
rafts, to the Wilde sea in desperation for safety,
Hope and trust in their faces, pleading for a welcome
a safe haven and a prosperous future.
A life without fear.
And then the Fence!
- Heinke Jenkins RBSA
Heinke was born in 1937 in Heilbronn, Germany, and has lived in England since 1961. She has been a member of the RBSA since 1965. First Heinke studied painting at the University of Stuttgart, but soon changed to graphic design and illustration. Her main medium is printing and lino cuts; in England in the 60s there was very little printmaking whilst in her native Germany it was an old tradition. Her work is haunted by the aftermath of World War II. This is reflected in her gaunt imagery. What better media to express her imagery but through her stark lino-cuts. Heinke’s first lino cuts were mostly black and white, but now they are more colourful. Her wok has been exhibited in America, Germany, and England
