11 – 14 year olds are invited to spend their October half term with The Old Vic for an exciting and creative week of drama workshops.

Over the course of five days participants will work with Director Roberta Zuric and Composer and Musical Director Tom Foskett-Barnes to explore the power of their voice. Participants will devise an original piece of theatre drawing on a range of skills, from performance, to singing, beatboxing and poetry. The week will culminate in a special, celebratory performance for an invited audience of friends and family.

This course has been designed to be inclusive and fun. Everyone is welcome to take part and you do not need to have any experience or musical ability to take part.

Course fee: £350 (£320 for additional sibling place)

Fees do not include meals and refreshments, travel or accommodation.

ABOUT THE PRACTITIONERS

Roberta Zuric

Roberta is a freelance theatre director and facilitator. Directing credits include: The Burning (Pleasance, Edinburgh Fest 2019), The Wave (Almeida Young Company), All Quiet on the Western Front (Pleasance and SoHo Playhouse, NYC). Alice in the Cuckoo’s Nest (Librarian Theatre/UK Tour), Zero for the Young Dudes! (Orange Tree Theatre/Albany/National Theatre), Thisbe (Door Ajar Theatre National Tour), A Christmas Carol (Librarian Theatre/UK tour), Naked (Brockley Jack). As associate: What We Leave Behind (Roundhouse). As assistant: RSC. Alongside directing, Roberta is an associate of the Incognito Theatre and National Youth Theatre.

Tom Foskett-Barnes

Tom Foskett-Barnes is a London-based composer for film and theatre.

Film credits include the Academy Award-nominated Black Sheep (dir. Ed Perkins, 2017) and Four Quartets (dir. Marco Alessi, 2017, Berlin International Film Festival, Special Mention from the Crystal Bear Jury) and toni_with_an_i (dir. Marco Alessi, BBC4).

For stage, Tom has composed and served as musical director for productions of Anna Bella Eema (Arcola), Pufferfish (VAULT Festival), Treasure Island (Arts Ed), Twelfth Night and Othello (Leicester Square Theatre), All’s Well That Ends Well and The Two Gentleman of Verona (Changeling Theatre).

In 2016 Tom was Sound and Music Composer in Residence with ROLI as part of the Embedded_Innovate Scheme. The residency culminated with the screening of MIDWAY, an audio-visual work about the residents of a council estate.

 

Tom was selected as part of the Old Vic 12 in 2017. During the residency Tom composed music for One Voice (dir. Annabel Bolton) and was Musical Supervisor for The Greatest Wealth (dir. Adrian Lester) both staged at the Old Vic.

In 2019 Tom completed Living with the Light On: Switchboard since the 70s, an audio documentary about the LGBT+ charity Switchboard. The work was commissioned by the Institute of Contemporary Art as part of the NEW CREATIVES programme and will be broadcast on the BBC.

Tom trained at the Royal College of Music as a Soirée d'Or Scholar generously supported by a Clifton Parker Award and was also the recipient of a BAFTA UK Scholarship. Tom is a participant in the 2019 BFI NETWORK x BAFTA Crew programme.
