Flautist Lynn Fraser and pianist Ben Eames have teamed up as Talea Duo for another beautiful concert in the Great Hall to continue the Music at the Mansion series. Lynn is known to Hill of Tarvit’s regular concert audience as one member of Bruadar Duo, who performed in 2019 and will return in October.

In the ‘Sérénade aux Etoiles’ concert, Talea Duo will present a wonderful mixture of piano and flute duos and solos from their wide repertoire.

Their 2020 ‘Sérénade aux Etoiles’ concert includes:

Sonata op.2 no.4 ‘La Lumague’  by Michel Blavet

This sonata is a wonderful example of French Baroque music, composed by Michel Blavet, perhaps the most celebrated flautist of the first half of the 18th century.

‘Fantaisie Brillante sur Carmen’ by François Borne

François Borne’s exhilarating, virtuosic variations on themes from ‘Carmen’, Georges Bizet’s famous opera, is a popular work in the flute and piano repertoire. The variations are based on three principal themes: the ‘Fate’ motif, ‘Habanera’ and ‘Chanson de Boheme’. Borne’s ‘Carmen’ ignores the tragic ending of the original opera; instead, the extravagant show-piece ends jubilantly!

‘Serenade aux Etoiles’ op. 142 by Cécile Chaminade

This charming work was written by Cécile Chaminade, one of the most published female composers. The ‘Sérénade aux Etoiles’ conjures up a calm, shimmering night sky, full of twinkling stars and the light of a beautiful, bright moon.

‘Suite Antique’ by John Rutter

Rutter is one of the leading composers of choral music working today. He also has an impressive catalogue of instrumental works. ‘Suite Antique’ is a firm favourite in the flute and piano repertoire. As the title suggests, each movement is based on a different ‘Ancient’ Baroque or Classical style.

Tempted? Join us for another great evening of Music at the Mansion.
