Local lass Charlotte Whittle, an opera singer from Fife, will present a magical evening of music with treasures from operas by Verdi, Rossini and more! Also featuring guest artist Olivia Betschart, a mezzo-soprano from Switzerland.

Enjoy Grand Opera arias performed live by dramatic soprano Charlotte Whittle and dramatic mezzo-soprano Olivia Betschart in the Great Hall at Hill of Tarvit. This is a unique opportunity to hear these two internationally emerging young artists sing a wonderful selection of famous opera arias using the beautiful acoustics of the Great Hall at Hill of Tarvit to its best.

Charlotte Whittle is an emerging young artist from the Kingdom of Fife. In June 2019 Charlotte sang scenes in the role of Sieglinde (Die Walküre) under the direction of conductor and pianist Thomas Barthel (Opernhaus Zürich). She worked in Dublin with Dr Dearbhla Collins (Royal Irish Academy of Music), performing scenes in the role of Amelia (Un Ballo in Maschera) and Elsa (Lohengrin). In 2017 she made her debut in Konstanz, Germany, singing excerpts as Leonora (Il Trovatore). Scottish appearances include the Edinburgh International Festival with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (The Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny) and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe where she was guest recitalist at St Giles Cathedral. Last summer Charlotte performed at the first-ever Largo Arts Week with comedian Phil Jupitus and internationally renowned artist David Mach (a fellow Fifer!). She enjoyed sharing the stage with Hollywood actor Alan Cumming at the Byre Theatre in St Andrews to raise money for the Neurosurgery Department at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. Charlotte appeared as Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) and Elettra (Idomeneo) with the St Andrews-based Heisenberg Ensemble under the baton of Gillian Craig. A graduate of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, Charlotte now spends a lot of her time performing in Zürich, Switzerland, where she and Oliva Betschart receive coaching from vocal mentor and international dramatic soprano Vera Wenkert, founder of Sona Vera.

Swiss-Chilean dramatic mezzo-soprano Olivia Betschart has sung several roles on stage such as Orfeo (Orfeo ed Euridice), Carmen (Carmen), Mrs Trapes (Beggar’s Opera), Juditha (Juditha Triumphans) and Arsace (Semiramide). She appeared in different festivals in Switzerland with her baroque ensemble Amor in Musica. Olivia performs regularly as a soloist in oratorios by J S Bach, Händel and Mozart in Switzerland and abroad. In 2017 she sung the first performance of Bruder Klaus Messe from Swiss composer Carl Rütti. Olivia has studied at the Operastudio Biel, the Musikhochschule Luzern and the Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève. She has worked in Dublin with Dr Dearbhla Collins (Royal Irish Academy of Music) and in Zürich with conductor and pianist Thomas Barthel (Opernhaus Zürich).
