In 1998 a pot of Roman coins was discovered at Curridge, Berkshire. Although it contained everyday Roman brasses and coppers produced from the first to the third centuries AD they bore the names and images of some of the most famous emperors in Roman history. The final coins date to the reign of Septimius Severus (AD 193-211) – destined to spend the end of his life in Britain as part of his campaign to subdue the lands beyond Hadrian’s Wall. The movement of armies and imperial retinues involved grand logistics, but even the small change of the time had to be likewise shipped in bulk to what was for the Romans the furthest reaches of their empire. A talk from British Museum Curator Richard Abdy.

Please phone the museum to book your ticket. All seating is unreserved.
