On Saturday 20th of October 2018, Blackfriars will host, in partnership with Durham University's IMEMS (*), the 14th Public lecture on Medieval food.
HOST: We are delighted to welcome Dr Debby Banham of Newnham College, University of Cambridge to take us back to the early Middle Ages, and questions the most basic of commodities - bread. The talk will focus on the making and meaning of bread in early medieval England. Bread was very, very important in early medieval England. In fact, without bread, there probably wouldn't have been much England for the Normans to conquer. In this talk, Debby will share some of the most interesting and intriguing results of the project.
