We are really excited to announce that tickets are now on sale for our second Annual Ball, a very special event in aid of ‘The Maddi Foundation’ and ‘Save Our Maddi Appeal’!

The Ball is the most glittering, glamorous evening in our calendar and our Host will be “Allo Allo star” Vicki Michelle. As usual there will be fabulous entertainment to enjoy, a live and silent auction and of course, a luxury three course meal in the stunning Ball Room at the magnificent Down Hall Country Hotel.

Profits from the evening, which includes the auctions and raffles, will go towards funding The Maddi Foundation SPG15 research projects as well as ‘Save our Maddi Appeal’ to support Maddi on her journey for life changing surgery in America to keep her moving!

About Maddi

On the 27th September, Maddi will have life changing surgery at St Louis Children’s Hospital in America to help her keep walking. The operation called ‘Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy’ will target the nerves that are causing spasticity in her legs. By deleting these nerves it will give Maddi a chance to keep moving, but intensive physio and rehabilitation is so important to keep Maddi strong. Here, in the UK such treatment is hugely expensive (£20,000 for one year) and fundraising is ongoing to support this for Maddi on her return from America at the end of October.

The Foundation

The Maddi Foundation is a non profit Charity which was founded by the family of Maddi, a young teenage girl from Essex. Maddi was diagnosed with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia type 15 (“SPG15”), a neurodegenerative disease, in 2016 for which to date there is no cure or treatment. It is a progressive brain disorder and is caused by a missing protein in the gene. Symptoms are similar to that of motor neuron disease and they begin to show in childhood. Our Charity needs your help to change the future by supporting our medical research to help find a cure for all SPG15 children and young adults.

Gene Therapy For SPG15

Two years ago, The Maddi Foundation partnered with Sheffield University of Neuroscience by working on a Gene Therapy Approach for SPG15. We are now two years in to this research for a potential cure and financial support is needed for this research to remain ongoing.

Gaining more understanding of single gene disorders such as SPG15 could also benefit other diseases such as Parkinson’s as there is a highlighted link between both Parkinsonism and SPG15.
