The Avon Vale Races is one of Wiltshire’s premier Point-to-Point Steeplechase meetings, held annually at Larkhill Racecourse, near Amesbury. Wiltshire is racing country; did you know that over 2,000 horses are trained for racing within 30 minutes drive of Larkhill? The busy Jumping yards of Alan King, namesake Neil, Emma Lavelle, Neil Mulholland, and Seamus Mullins, just to name a few, sit within our country and its surrounds. If you follow horse racing, then this is a great starting point.
Horse race meeetings are among the UK's most popular sporting pastimes, and the annual Point-to-Point has always been a great tradition, a chance to dust down the picnic and watch some competitive racing in the Spring sunshine. Read our report of this year's event when Larkhill was bathed in sunshine. And prepare yourself for one of Wiltshire's great sporting and social traditions at this year's fixture on Saturday March 28th.
A day at the races is about far more than racing. There’s shopping, a licensed bar stocked with our official ales from Wadworth Brewery, a dog show, including agility, parade of hounds and a chance to catch up with friends and acquaintances as you stroll around the racecourse, not to mention the fantastic views across Salisbury Plain.
