Summer Sounds: Blackburn and Darwen Band

Join us for Summer Sounds - a packed programme of music on the bandstand at Strawberry Field. With free music events happening every weekend throughout the summer, Summer Sounds is the perfect family day out. Bring along your picnic blankets and deckchairs, and enjoy music in the garden as John Lennon did as a child.

Live on the bandstand on is Saturday 6th July is Blackburn and Darwen Band.

Originally known as the "Blackburn Old Band," Blackburn & Darwen quickly gained recognition for their musical prowess and soon became a focal point of community pride. Over the years, the band has evolved, adapting to changing musical tastes and cultural shifts while remaining steadfast in its commitment to excellence.

Throughout its long history, the Blackburn & Darwen Band has achieved numerous accolades and triumphs, including victories at prestigious brass band competitions and performances at notable venues and events both nationally and internationally. Beyond their musical achievements, the band has also played a significant role in the cultural and social fabric of the Blackburn and Darwen communities, serving as ambassadors for the region and bringing people together through the power of music.

Today, the Blackburn & Darwen Band continues to thrive, alongside a fantastic Junior Band, delighting audiences with their performances and inspiring future generations of musicians to carry on the tradition of brass band music. With their enduring legacy and unwavering commitment to musical excellence, the band remains a cherished institution in the world of brass bands.

Doors open from 10am with performances starting at 2pm. Free entry, but donations are welcome and appreciated.

Please note that there is no seating in the garden. Feel free to bring your own chairs and picnic blankets. Food and drink will be available to purchase in the Imagine More café.
