The short answer: earlier than you think, especially for a Friday or Saturday in December. The good news is that it’s rarely too late if you’re flexible. Here’s a simple timeline, which dates go first, and how to still find somewhere great if December is already creeping up on you.
Find Christmas party venues near you
Summer to September: the sweet spot. Most choice of venues and dates, and time to agree a budget and a guest list without a rush. If you want a December Friday or Saturday at a popular venue, aim for this window.
October: still plenty of choice. Weekend dates at the busiest venues start to go, but there’s lots available, especially midweek and at venues running several party nights.
November: be flexible. Thursday and midweek dates, festive lunches and shared party nights are your friends. Send enquiries to several venues at once to save time.
December: think differently. Last-minute parties are very doable if you look at lunches, weekday evenings, smaller groups at shared nights or a January party instead.
Fridays and Saturdays in the first three weeks of December are the most asked-for nights, so they’re usually the first to fill at popular venues. Thursdays are close behind. Monday to Wednesday evenings and festive lunches stay open much longer, and can be better value for the same room.
Agree your budget per head and rough numbers first, then check what’s included (drinks, entertainment, finish time), the deposit and how late you can confirm final numbers. Our guide to shared or exclusive parties helps if you’re not sure which format suits your team.
How far in advance should we book a work Christmas party?
For a December Friday or Saturday at a popular venue, aim for late summer or early autumn. Midweek dates, lunches and January parties can often be arranged a few weeks ahead.
Is it too late to book a Christmas party in November?
No. Be flexible on the night of the week, consider lunches and shared party nights, and enquire with several venues at once.
How many venues should we contact?
Three to five is a good number. You’ll get a range of prices and dates to compare without being overwhelmed.
Does it cost anything to use ChristmasVenues.com?
No. Browsing and enquiring are free. Your enquiry goes straight to the venue, and you book and pay the venue directly.
