The Greenwich Cinema was a modern purpose- built three-screen cinema designed by Howard and Unick. Opening in 1989, the cinema was an instant success and continued to do solid business until out-of-town multiplex competition opened nearby. The cinema closed in 2002.

City Screen, the UK’s leading independent cinema operator which runs some of London’s most cherished cinemas including the Ritzy, the Gate and the Clapham and Stratford Picturehouses, stepped in to rescue the building and transformed it into a five-screen venue, including a flexible basement screening area with its own lounge bar (which also hosts music and comedy events), a bar and two restaurants

The Picturehouse has a wide range of facilities to suit your private hire and conferencing needs. The auditoria accommodate a large number of people and are ideal for presentations, product launches, lectures, AGMs or business meetings. Our projection facilities enable film or video presentation and the screens are ideal for Powerpoint or slide displays.

School Screening & Events

We believe that film and cinema have an increasingly important role to play within the National Curriculum, aiding pupils’ learning and development throughout their formal education.

Our education team work closely with teachers and Local Education Authorities to deliver a year-round, diverse programme of screenings, talks and workshops, all carefully designed to complement the National Curriculum at different levels and develop young people’s cine-literacy skills.
