World Museum Liverpool

William Brown St, Liverpool, Merseyside, L3 8EN

World Museum is the oldest of the museums and galleries in National Museums Liverpool’s portfolio, with origins dating back to the mid 1800s.

It’s widely known now for its huge collections and displays on life sciences, earth sciences and human cultures from around the world, including a wonderful Ancient Egypt gallery. The Museum is also home to a fantastic planetarium and aquarium, both of which can be used for private events.

In addition to large galleries, including one with a capacity for 1,000 people, and a versatile lecture theatre, World Museum also boasts three multi-functional event spaces across the ground floor.

The spacious atrium, which offers an abundance of natural light, is adjoined to another historic part of the Museum, an area once part of the neighbouring Technical School of Liverpool, which opened in 1901. Redevelopment of this area has allowed event facilities to be modernised while retaining the rich heritage of the building, bringing an area once hidden from public view back into use. A key feature of the redeveloped spaces are the impressive painted plasterworks which adorn its walls and ceilings, completed by sculptor Frederick William Pomeroy (1856-1924) and artist Robert Anning Bell (1863-1933).
