Historian and Author, Simon Potter has written three new books about murders committed in Lincolnshire during the Victorian era.
His talk will bring to life real cases of Victorian Murders in our area, offering deep insights into the lives, crimes, and investigative methods of a bygone age.
After the talk there will be a chance to buy signed copies of the books.
About the Books:
Three fascinating new books telling the stories of over a hundred murders in Lincolnshire during the Victorian era, many of which have not been told since the original newspaper reports.
In 1850 the editor of the Lincolnshire Free Press wrote that if he did not ‘fill his paper with news of importance, whether there be any or not, it is condemned for not being what it purports to be – a newspaper. If every paper does not contain a goodly number of horrible murders, it is a dull unwelcome sheet.’
And there were plenty of 'horrible murders' to write about – over a hundred in Lincolnshire alone in the Victorian era.
With no fingerprinting, no DNA testing and only the beginnings of forensic examinations, did the guilty escape punishment? Did the innocent get convicted? Decide for yourself.
These real-life stories are not just about the killings; they are a real eye-opener into the way people lived, and died, in Victorian Lincolnshire.
